THE SCOREBOARD
ISSUE 001 — THE PROCESS EDITION
WHAT EVERYBODY SEES.
The scoreboard is the first thing people notice.
It's public.
It's visible.
It's easy to understand.
Wins.
Losses.
Money.
Followers.
Titles.
Championships.
Recognition.
The scoreboard gives people a way to measure success.
And because it's visible, most people assume it's the most important thing.
But that's where they get it wrong.
The scoreboard is not the story.
The scoreboard is the result of the story.
WHAT IS THE SCOREBOARD?
The scoreboard is any outcome people can see.
For an athlete, it might be championships.
For a business owner, it might be revenue.
For a creator, it might be followers.
For a student, it might be grades.
For a professional, it might be promotions.
The scoreboard changes depending on the game.
But every scoreboard has one thing in common:
It only measures outcomes.
It doesn't measure effort.
It doesn't measure growth.
It doesn't measure sacrifice.
It doesn't measure character.
It only measures what happened.
Not how it happened.
THE PROBLEM WITH CHASING SCOREBOARDS
Scoreboards are useful.
But they're dangerous when they become your identity.
Because scoreboards move.
Some seasons you're winning.
Some seasons you're rebuilding.
Some seasons you're learning.
Some seasons you're surviving.
If your confidence depends on the scoreboard, your confidence will constantly rise and fall.
You'll feel successful when you're ahead.
You'll feel worthless when you're behind.
You'll become a prisoner to outcomes.
And eventually you'll forget why you started playing in the first place.
THE TROPHY ISN'T THE GOAL
Everybody wants the trophy.
Nobody wants what it costs.
The early mornings.
The late nights.
The failures.
The sacrifices.
The repetition.
The uncertainty.
The trophy is simply proof that the work happened.
The trophy isn't the goal.
The growth is.
Because eventually every trophy collects dust.
Every record gets broken.
Every championship becomes history.
But the player remains.
The lessons remain.
The character remains.
The growth remains.
THE WIN ISN'T THE STORY
People celebrate the win.
But the win isn't the story.
The story is everything that happened before it.
The days you wanted to quit.
The mistakes you learned from.
The habits you built.
The discipline you developed.
The person you became.
That's the story.
The scoreboard only gives you the ending.
The game gives you the journey.
The player gives you the meaning.
WHEN THE SCOREBOARD DOESN'T FAVOR YOU
What happens when you're losing?
What happens when the scoreboard isn't moving?
What happens when nobody notices your work?
What happens when the results take longer than expected?
That's when philosophy matters.
Anybody can trust the process when they're winning.
The challenge is trusting it when they aren't.
The player keeps showing up.
The player keeps improving.
The player keeps believing.
Because the player understands something most people don't:
The scoreboard is delayed.
The work comes first.
The outcome comes later.
RESPECT THE SCOREBOARD
DKP isn't about ignoring results.
Results matter.
Winning matters.
Achievement matters.
Competition matters.
The scoreboard provides feedback.
It tells you where you are.
It helps you evaluate performance.
It helps you improve.
But it should never determine your value.
Use the scoreboard as information.
Never use it as identity.
THE DKP PHILOSOPHY
Most people begin with the scoreboard.
They see success.
Then they try to reverse engineer it.
We start somewhere different.
We start with the player.
The player changes the game.
The game changes the scoreboard.
Not the other way around.
Because if you build the right player and commit to the right game long enough, the scoreboard eventually follows.
And when it does, you won't need it to validate you.
Because you'll already know who you are.
THE REAL WIN
The real win isn't the trophy.
The real win isn't the title.
The real win isn't the applause.
The real win is becoming someone capable of earning those things.
The real win is discipline.
The real win is resilience.
The real win is confidence.
The real win is growth.
The real win is becoming the player.
Because long after the scoreboard changes, the player remains.
REMEMBER
The scoreboard is temporary.
The game is forever.
The player remains.
Don't Keep Points.
Enjoy The Game.
